BMW has launched the X1 LWB in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 49.90 lakh. The long-wheelbase SUV joins the standard X1 in the Indian line-up and focuses on improved rear-seat comfort.
The X1 LWB gets a 108mm longer wheelbase than the standard model. It also comes with M Sport styling as standard and uses a more powerful petrol engine. Interestingly, it costs Rs 1 lakh less than the standard X1 petrol.
BMW X1 LWB Gets A Longer Body
The X1 LWB measures 116mm longer than the standard-wheelbase model. Most of this increase comes from its 108mm longer wheelbase, which creates additional space for rear passengers.
The exterior design remains largely familiar. It gets the same slim headlamps, sporty M Sport bumpers, sharp tail-lamps and 18-inch alloy wheels. A chrome window surround is the main visual difference, while a Shadow Package is available as an option.
BMW X1 LWB Gets More Rear Seat Space
The extended wheelbase primarily benefits passengers in the second row. BMW has redesigned the rear seats with additional cushioning and a 15mm longer seat base for improved thigh support.
The rear backrest can also recline by a few degrees. These changes aim to make the X1 LWB more comfortable for passengers on longer journeys. The front cabin remains largely unchanged from the standard X1.
BMW X1 LWB Features & Safety
The dashboard features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets a wireless charging pad, floating centre console and multiple physical controls.
Other features include adaptive LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, powered front seats and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. However, the SUV misses front-seat ventilation, massage functions and a dedicated rear climate zone.
Safety features include 8 airbags, ABS, ESC and Isofix mounts. The X1 LWB also gets ADAS functions such as autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning and assist. Adaptive cruise control is not available.
BMW X1 LWB Gets A 1.5-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine
The BMW X1 LWB is available with a single 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. It produces 156 HP and 230 NM of torque, with power sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The engine produces 20 HP more than the standard X1 petrol. BMW claims the X1 LWB can accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in 9.58 seconds. The SUV also gets revised suspension tuning aimed at improving ride comfort.
BMW X1 LWB Colours & Variants
The X1 LWB is available in four exterior colours in India. These include Night Dusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White.
Unlike the standard X1, the long-wheelbase version is offered only with a petrol engine. BMW does not offer a diesel powertrain with the X1 LWB.
Prices In India
The BMW X1 LWB is priced at Rs 49.90 lakh ex-showroom. It is currently the most affordable X1 variant in India, despite offering a longer wheelbase and additional rear-seat space.

BMW X1 LWB Rivals
The BMW X1 LWB competes with premium compact SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and Mini Countryman. However, it is the only long-wheelbase model among these rivals.
Its longer wheelbase gives the BMW an advantage for rear-seat space. At the same time, its petrol-only powertrain and front-wheel-drive layout distinguish it from some alternatives in the segment.
