BMW is preparing to introduce new variants of its i5 electric sedan in India by the end of 2025. These additions are expected to be positioned below the existing top-end models currently priced above ₹1 crore (ex-showroom).
Expansion Beyond Top-Spec Models

At present, the i5 is only available in higher-end trims, such as the M60 xDrive. The upcoming variants are likely to feature reduced power output or fewer features, offering buyers a relatively lower entry point into BMW’s electric sedan lineup.
Powertrain & Range Details

The global i5 lineup includes the eDrive40, which uses a single motor producing around 335 HP and 400 NM of torque, and the M60 xDrive, a dual-motor setup with approximately 601 HP and 795 NM of torque. These deliver 0–100 KM/H times of 6.0 seconds and 3.8 seconds respectively with top speed of 230 KMPH.
Specification | eDrive 40 | xDrive M60 |
Fuel Type | Electric | Electric |
Horsepower | 335 | 601 |
Torque | 400 NM | 795 NM |
Drivetrain | RWD (Rare Wheel Drive) | AWD (All Wheel Drive) |
Electric Motors | Single motor (One at rare axle) | Dual motor (One at each axle) |
Acceleration | 6.0 seconds | 3.8 seconds |
Top Speed | 193 KMPH | 230 KMPH |
The more accessible versions for India are expected to retain the same battery pack, likely around 83.9 KWH usable capacity but will probably come with a single-motor configuration. The eDrive40 currently offers a claimed range of 516 KM (WLTP) in international markets, which could translate into comparable MIDC-rated range figures for the Indian market. Charging speeds are expected to stay in line with the global models, with 205 KW DC fast charging enabling a 10–80% charge in roughly 30 minutes.
Feature Adjustments

While the exact list of features hasn’t been confirmed, the more affordable i5 variants may see cuts in optional equipment or advanced performance tuning. However, essential features such as the digital display setup and standard driver assistance technologies are expected to remain. The interior features may continue to remain the same in these versions.
Launch Timeline & Pricing
The new variants are projected to launch by late 2025, with bookings possibly beginning earlier. Though official prices are yet to be announced, estimates suggest a starting point likely to be Rs 85 Lakh-90 Lakh which would place them below the current top-end models.
Further details about the Indian specifications, equipment, and production plans are expected closer to the official launch.
