Recent spy shots have shown the upcoming BMW 5 Series undergoing testing. This facelifted model is expected to debut in 2027, as a substantial evolution in design and technology for the iconic sedan. It will align with BMW’s new Neue Klasse design philosophy.

Design & Interiors

The latest prototypes display a refreshed front fascia that departs from the controversial newer kidney grille design. Instead, the grille is slimmer and wider matching the newly styled headlights. In addition to the front-end modifications, the rear of the vehicle will feature redesigned taillights and an updated bumper. The overall silhouette of the vehicle remains similar as BMW wants to preserve the soul of one of its defining models.

Interiors

The interior will also see significant upgrades. Expect the new panoramic iDrive X system, featuring a customizable pillar-to-pillar display. It comes with a separate area for the passenger as well. As part of its technological overhaul, the updated 5 Series will likely incorporate features from BMW’s latest electric models, such as more advanced ADAS systems.

Engine Specifications & Powertrain

The new 5 Series will continue to offer a range of engine options. These include both turbo-petrol and diesel options, available in 4, inline-6 & V8 options. Plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants will benefit from advancements in battery technology, increasing range by up to 30% due to higher energy density cells & solid-state battery cells.

Future & Launch

The BMW 5 Series is on track for a significant transformation ahead of its launch in mid-to-late 2027. BMW’s bread-and-butter luxury sedan will go head-to-head with increasingly more advanced and affordable Chinese competition along with its existing European competitors. More details are expected as we near the launch date.
