Bentley has revealed the Torcal, its first-ever electric vehicle and fourth model line. The new luxury SUV will arrive in India in the second half of 2027. Positioned below the Bentayga, the Torcal uses a dedicated electric powertrain and will not be offered with a petrol engine. It also introduces Bentley’s redesigned emblem and several new technologies, while retaining the brand’s focus on craftsmanship and personalisation.

Bentley Torcal Exterior Design

The Torcal is around 120 MM shorter and 50 MM lower than the standard-wheelbase Bentayga. However, it retains Bentley’s long bonnet design and uses short overhangs with a wheelbase of just over 3,000 MM. Its illuminated grille features crystal-effect elements behind a clear polycarbonate panel, while the lighting design takes inspiration from the Continental GT.

The SUV also gets slim tail-lamps connected by a U-shaped lighting motif. The standard model rides on 21-inch wheels, while the First Edition shown by Bentley gets 22-inch wheels. Other exterior details include a hands-free charging flap and a 90-litre front storage compartment.

Bentley Torcal Interior & Features

The Torcal gets a completely new cabin with a curved OLED touchscreen integrated into the dashboard and centre console. Bentley has retained physical controls for several functions, including knurled switches. However, the front air vents are adjusted through the touchscreen.

Technology includes facial recognition, which can load the driver’s seat, steering and ADAS settings. An augmented-reality head-up display also projects navigation information and hazard markers into the driver’s view.

Experience Modes & Cabin Personalisation

Four Experience Modes alter the cabin lighting, sound, climate, displays and driving characteristics. They include Sport, Bentley, Comfort and Refresh modes. Comfort mode can reduce the amount of information displayed, while Refresh increases fresh-air flow and brightens the cabin.

Bentley has also developed a dedicated Dynamic Symphony soundtrack for the EV. Instead of imitating an engine note, the system uses recordings of real instruments and changes according to speed and torque demand. Buyers can also specify a 1,780W Naim audio system with 28 speakers, Dolby Atmos 7.1, headrest speakers and seat shakers.

Bentley Torcal Rear Seat & Materials

The Torcal uses traditional Bentley materials alongside new options. Leather is available in 15 shades, while the cabin can also be specified with a Merino wool automotive fabric developed with Fox Brothers. Mulliner options include Ombre Walnut and Sunburst Aluminium finishes, while the switchable Frosted Diamond glass roof allows the amount of incoming light to be adjusted.

Rear passengers get heated and cooled seats, physical climate controls and three USB-C ports, including one rated at 100W. The rear bench can also be electrically folded. Bentley says the Torcal offers good rear legroom and headroom despite its smaller footprint compared with the Bentayga.

Bentley Torcal Battery, Performance & Range

The Torcal uses the PPE platform shared with the Porsche Cayenne Electric. Its flagship version gets two permanent-magnet motors producing 888 HP and 1,350 NM. Bentley claims a 0–100 KM/H time of 2.9 seconds, despite the SUV weighing around 2.7 tonnes.

Power comes from a 113 KWH net battery operating on an 800V architecture. The claimed WLTP range stands at 600 KM. On a 400 KW charger, Bentley claims a 10–80 percent charge in 16 minutes. The battery also comes with a 10-year or 100,000-mile warranty.

Chassis & Safety Technology

The Torcal gets fully active suspension instead of conventional anti-roll bars, along with rear-wheel steering with up to five degrees of movement. Bentley claims this reduces the turning circle to 11.1 metres. Optional carbon-ceramic brakes feature 440 MM front discs.

The ADAS package uses 25 radars, sensors and cameras. The system can reverse the vehicle along its previous route for up to 50 metres and can park the SUV in a designated space from up to 200 metres away.

Bentley Torcal India Launch & Expected Price

The Bentley Torcal will arrive in India in the second half of 2027. Bentley expects the model to be substantially more expensive than the Bentayga because EVs do not receive the same customs-duty benefit under the new UK-India FTA. The expected India price is around Rs 4.5 crore, ex-showroom, although Bentley has not confirmed the final price.

Verdict

The Torcal marks a major change for Bentley as its first production EV and establishes the design and technology direction for future models. It combines a fully electric powertrain with traditional materials, extensive personalisation and advanced chassis technology. However, its driving character and real-world range will need to be assessed after an India-spec model becomes available. Bentley’s first EV will therefore be an important test of how the brand’s traditional characteristics translate into an electric SUV.
