Audi is preparing for a dramatic return of their supercar, the Audi R8. The Audi R8 was officially discontinued not so long ago, as Audi wanted to focus on building EVs and restructuring its entire lineup. Thankfully, the R8 is on its way back, with reports suggesting that it would likely share components with the Lamborghini Temerario.
Powertrain Information
What we can confirm is that if the R8 does return, it will be sharing its powertrain with the Lamborghini Temerario, a 4.0L twin-turbo, flat-plane-crank V8 engine making 907 BHP and revving to a blistering 10000 RPM. It employs three axial-flux electric motors to quickly soar towards its redline. To keep all that power in check, the Temerario sends its thrust to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It comes with 13 drive modes. All this tech and muscle results in a staggering 2.7-second 0-60 mph launch and a top speed of over 342 miles per hour. We expect the new R8 to share these specifications with its Italian sibling.
Audi is bringing the R8 back to address the gap in their portfolio without their flagship supercar. The beloved R8 was no more, which resulted in lost market share for Audi. This suggested that the R8 was loved by enthusiasts and contributed immensely towards building Audi’s brand value.
Launch & Pricing
The expected launch for the new R8 is in 2027, but Audi has not yet confirmed the official launch date for the vehicle, as the Temerario’s German twin might still be under development. The last recorded price of the Audi R8 was Rs. 2.72 Crore (ex-showroom) in India, so the new one shouldn’t be any cheaper and could go much over 3 Crore Rupees.
