Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the third-generation GLA globally with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains under a single nameplate. Unlike the previous generation, where the electric version was sold as the EQA, both versions will now be offered as the GLA. Built on Mercedes-Benz’s new MMA platform, the SUV features updated styling, a redesigned cabin, and new powertrain options. The new GLA is also expected to arrive in India at a later stage.
EV Lineup Offers Up To 657 KM Of Claimed Range
The electric GLA will be available in three variants: 250, 250+, and 350. The GLA 250 uses a 58 KWH battery pack and offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 447 KM. Meanwhile, the 250+ and 350 variants feature a larger 85 KWH battery pack with a claimed range of up to 657 KM. Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed that a 71 KWH battery option will be introduced globally in 2027.
ICE Model Gets New Mild-Hybrid Petrol Engine
The ICE-powered GLA will be launched globally in 2027. It will use Mercedes-Benz’s new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Additionally, the engine will be mated to an electrified 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Buyers will be able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. However, Mercedes-Benz has not yet disclosed the engine’s power and torque figures.
Exterior Receives New SUV-Inspired Design
The third-generation GLA adopts Mercedes-Benz’s latest SUV design language. At the front, the EV and ICE models feature different grille designs, while both versions receive an illuminated grille surround and new LED headlamps with three-pointed-star daytime running light signatures.
Moreover, the SUV gets alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches, gloss-black body cladding, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear connecting the redesigned tail-lamps.
Larger Dimensions Improve Practicality
Compared to its predecessor, the new GLA is 153 MM longer, 39 MM wider, and features a 61 MM longer wheelbase. As a result, boot space has increased to 410 litres. Additionally, the electric version offers a 107-litre front storage compartment.
These changes are expected to improve passenger space and luggage capacity.
Cabin Gets Triple-Screen Layout
The new GLA features a redesigned cabin centred around Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Superscreen. Higher variants receive a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 14-inch passenger display.
Furthermore, the cabin includes a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls, while most vehicle functions are operated through the central touchscreen.
Features & Safety
Depending on the variant, the GLA is available with a panoramic sunroof, a 16-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, automatic parking assistance, and an optional transparent bonnet function.
Mercedes-Benz is also expected to offer the latest driver assistance and safety technologies across the lineup, although market-specific equipment may vary.
Prices In India
Mercedes-Benz has not announced pricing for the third-generation GLA in India. The second-generation facelift is currently priced from Rs 51.80 lakh (ex-showroom), while the new model is expected to be positioned above it.
