The new Lexus LX 500d is now officially available for reservations, with pricing beginning at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). The flagship SUV based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will not be equipped with any petrol engines, but Lexus will sell the new LX 500d in two versions: the basic Urban version and the off-road-focused Overtrail edition. The NX 350h Overtrail made its debut in India in 2024, making this the second Lexus Overtrail model to arrive in the country.
Large, angular headlights with L-shaped LED signatures flank the distinctive Lexus spindle grille up front, while the lower half of the fascia houses massive vertically-oriented air intakes. The LX 500d’s side profile boasts massive glass area and 22-inch alloy wheels, while the large connected tail-lamps and chunky cladding take center stage at the rear. The ladder-frame construction gives the vehicle a tall and imposing stance.
Several aesthetic alterations are made to the LX 500d Overtrail, such as blacked-out parts all over the body, including the grille, fog lights, roof rails, wing mirrors, door handles, etc. It also comes with a special “Moon Desert” color option and smaller 18-inch matte grey aluminum wheels with higher-profile tires.
Buyers of the LX 500d have the option of having the dashboard, doors, and seats upholstered in either tan or crimson leather. The center console is covered in satin silver and has a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen on top. Below it are HVAC vents and controls, a 7-inch drive mode display, and other components. An 8-inch MID display in the instrument cluster and a heads-up display are directly in front of the driver, and the three-spoke steering wheel has paddle shifters.
Front-seat massage capabilities, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, 4-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, two 11.6-inch rear passenger entertainment displays, a single-pane sunroof, a 25-speaker 3D Mark Levinson sound system, and more are just a few of the many features that the LX 500d offers.
The safety suite includes 10 airbags, traction control, hill assist control, trailer sway control, adaptive high lights, blind spot monitoring, pre-collision system, lane departure and tracing help, safe exit aid, adaptive cruise control, and more to ensure safety.
The Overtrail version of the LX 500d has some internal modifications in addition to external ones. The dashboard, doors, and seats in the interior are painted a dark green color called “Overtrail Monolith.” In certain places, glossy silver trim is replaced with black.
A 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel engine with 304 BHP and 700 Nm of torque is the only engine available for the LX 500d. It is coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The SUV’s dynamics include adaptive suspension, a standard center differential lock, active height control, and all-wheel drive. Front and rear differential locks are also included with the Overtrail version.
For different situations, the LX 500d has five driving modes: Normal, Eco, Comfort, Sport S, and Sport S+. Additionally, owners may adjust the settings to suit their tastes using the Custom mode.
The Overtrail model costs Rs 12 lakh more than the base LX 500d Urban, which begins at Rs 3 crore. The LX 500d competes with the Range Rover, Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and BMW XM in India. As the car is a Completely Built Unit (CBU), it attracts heavy taxation & is priced more than three times as much as in other markets.
